CONSECRATION

CONSECRATION: A FULL SCRIPTURAL, LEXICAL, AND DOCTRINAL EXPOSITION

Culled from: Scripture, Bible dictionaries, concordance study, and doctrinal alignment with teachings of Reverend Olusola Areogun

INTRODUCTION: CONSECRATION IS THE SPINE OF THE CHRISTIAN LIFE

Consecration is not an advanced topic—it is the foundation of spiritual relevance.

Many believers are saved but powerless, active but ineffective, present but not impactful. The missing link is often consecration.

From a concordance-wide view, every man God used—Abraham, Moses, Samuel, Daniel, Paul—had one thing in common:
They were set apart before they were sent forth.

1. THE LANGUAGE OF CONSECRATION (DEEP WORD STUDY)

Hebrew (Old Testament): “QADASH” (קָדַשׁ)

Meaning (from Bible dictionaries such as Strong’s and Vine’s):

  • To be set apart
  • To be made holy
  • To be dedicated for divine use
  • To be separated from common use

It carries the idea of removal from the ordinary into the sacred

Greek (New Testament): “HAGIAZO” (ἁγιάζω)

Meaning:

  • To sanctify
  • To purify
  • To dedicate to God
  • To treat as holy

Not just separation—but transformation of purpose

Key Insight (Concordance Synthesis):

Consecration is not just what you leave—it is what you become available for.

2. CONSECRATION THROUGH MULTIPLE BIBLE VERSIONS

Let’s open up one foundational scripture deeply:

Romans 12:1 KJV

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.”

Amplified Bible (AMP)

“Therefore I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies [dedicating all of yourselves, set apart] as a living sacrifice, holy and well-pleasing to God, which is your rational (logical, intelligent) act of worship.”

New Living Translation (NLT)

“And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you…”

Expository Insight

  • “Present” = a deliberate offering, not automatic
  • “Living sacrifice” = not dead once, but yielded daily
  • “Reasonable service” = the minimum expected response, not extraordinary

Consecration is not extremism—it is normal Christianity.

3. CONSECRATION IS PRESENTATION BEFORE IT IS SEPARATION

Most believers try to “live right” without first presenting themselves.

That never works.

Romans 6:13 (KJV)

“Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God…”

Romans 6:13 (NIV)

“Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God…”

The word “yield” (Greek: paristēmi) means:

  • To place at someone’s disposal
  • To make yourself available for use

Key Doctrine

Consecration is availability before purity.
God cleans what you present.

4. CONSECRATION IS THE CONDITION FOR DIVINE USE

This is a major doctrinal emphasis in the teachings of Reverend Olusola Areogun:

“Your usefulness to God is determined by your level of consecration.”

2 Timothy 2:20–21 (KJV)

“But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth…
If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use…”

Amplified (AMP)

“So whoever cleanses himself from these things [that is, if he removes himself from what is dishonorable and disobedient], he will be a vessel for honor…”

There are two categories of believers:

  • Saved but common vessels
  • Saved and consecrated vessels

Only one category is usable at divine capacity.

5. CONSECRATION DEMANDS DEATH TO SELF

You cannot carry God’s will and your will at the same time.

Luke 9:23 (KJV)

“If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.”

Luke 9:23 (NLT)

“If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way…”

Galatians 2:20 (KJV)

“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me…”

Consecration is the exchange of ownership:

  • Your plans → God’s plans
  • Your will → God’s will
  • Your life → God’s purpose

6. CONSECRATION AND INTIMACY (CONCORDANCE PATTERN)

From Genesis to Revelation, one pattern is clear:

👉 God reveals Himself to consecrated people

Psalm 25:14 (KJV)

“The secret of the Lord is with them that fear him…”

Psalm 25:14 (AMP)

“The secret [of the wise counsel] of the Lord is for those who fear Him…”

“Secret” (Hebrew: sod) means:

  • Confidential counsel
  • Inner circle discussion

Key Insight

Consecration gives you access to God’s inner conversations.

7. CONSECRATION IS BOTH POSITIONAL AND PRACTICAL

Hebrews 10:10 (KJV)

“By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.”

You are consecrated in Christ.

1 Thessalonians 4:3 (KJV)

“For this is the will of God, even your sanctification…”

But you must live it out daily.

Doctrinal Balance

Dimension & Meaning

Positional – What Christ did for you

Practical – What you do in response

8. PRACTICAL PATHWAY INTO CONSECRATION

1. Make a Definite Choice

Joshua 24:15 (KJV)

“…choose you this day whom ye will serve…”

2. Separate from Defilement

2 Corinthians 6:17 (KJV)

“Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord…”

3. Submit to God Fully

James 4:7–8 (KJV)

“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you…”

4. Stay in the Word

John 17:17 (KJV)

“Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.”

5. Discipline Your Flesh

1 Corinthians 9:27 (KJV)

“But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection…”

9. THE COST AND THE REWARD

The Cost

  • Comfort
  • Convenience
  • Self-will

The Reward

Daniel 1:8 (KJV)

“But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself…”

Result:

  • Divine favour
  • Supernatural wisdom
  • Governmental authority

10. FINAL DOCTRINAL SUMMARY

Consecration is:

  • A decision before it becomes a lifestyle
  • A presentation before it becomes purity
  • A death before it becomes power
  • A separation before it becomes usefulness

FINAL CHARGE

As consistently emphasised in the teachings of Reverend Olusola Areogun:

“You don’t rise in God beyond your level of consecration.”

CONCLUSION

Consecration is not optional for those who want:

  • Depth
  • Power
  • Clarity
  • Impact

It is the price of relevance in the Spirit.
