If You Could Do Any Job for One Day… What Would It Reveal About You?

What’s a job you would like to do for just one day?

At first, it sounds like a fun question.

Some people would say:

  • A pilot ✈️
  • A surgeon 🩺
  • A president
  • A professional footballer
  • A billionaire CEO
  • A detective
  • A musician on a world stage

But if we are honest, the answer often reveals something deeper than curiosity.

It reveals hunger.

There is something inside every human being that longs to matter, to impact lives, to be seen, to solve problems, to feel useful, powerful, needed, or fulfilled.

And here is the truth many people miss:

The greatest “job” on earth is not necessarily the one with the highest salary, loudest applause, or biggest platform.

The greatest assignment is the one God created you for.

Many people spend their whole lives chasing positions while neglecting purpose.

A man can wear an expensive suit and still be empty.
A woman can become famous and still feel lost.
Someone can reach the top of a career ladder only to discover it was leaning against the wrong wall.

The Bible says:

“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” — Ephesians 2:10 (KJV)

Notice that God already prepared works, assignments, and purposes for us before we arrived on earth.

You were not created accidentally.
You were designed intentionally.

Moses was raised in a palace, but his true assignment was deliverance.
David was a shepherd boy before becoming a king.
Peter was a fisherman before becoming a kingdom builder.
Paul was highly educated, yet his greatest work began when he surrendered fully to Christ.

Your destiny may not begin where your purpose ends.

Sometimes God uses ordinary places to prepare people for extraordinary assignments.

The real tragedy in life is not failing.

The real tragedy is succeeding at something God never sent you to do.

Jesus Himself made this powerful statement:

“My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.” — John 4:34 (KJV)

That was His satisfaction.
That was His fulfillment.
Not popularity.
Not applause.
Not comfort.

Purpose.

So maybe the better question is not:
“What job would you like to do for one day?”

Maybe the deeper question is:

“Am I doing what Heaven designed me for?”

Because when a person finds divine purpose:

  • Work becomes meaningful
  • Service becomes joyful
  • Sacrifice becomes lighter
  • Impact becomes eternal

And here is the beautiful thing:
God does not only call pastors or preachers.

He calls teachers.
He calls writers.
He calls mothers.
He calls business owners.
He calls creatives.
He calls helpers.
He calls intercessors.
He calls leaders.
He calls faithful workers behind the scenes.

Every divine assignment matters.

The issue is not whether your role is public.
The issue is whether it is God-ordained.

One day, titles will fade.
Awards will gather dust.
Earthly applause will disappear.

But what was done for God and according to His purpose will remain forever.

“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.” — Colossians 3:23 (KJV)

So today, pause and think deeply.

If God removed money, fame, and human applause from the equation…
What would still burn in your heart to do?

That answer may be closer to your calling than you realize.

Prayer

Father, help me not to waste my life chasing things You never assigned to me. Open my eyes to discover Your purpose for my life and give me the grace to walk faithfully in it. Let my life bring glory to You and impact to my generation. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

The Message Bearer, Cornelius Bella
