“The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God…” — Psalm 14:1 (KJV)
For thousands of years, mankind has attempted to answer one of the greatest questions ever asked:
Does God exist?
While countless books, debates, documentaries, and scientific discoveries have sought to answer that question, one remarkable fact remains:
No one has ever conclusively disproved the existence of God.
Many have rejected Him.
Many have denied Him.
Many have ridiculed belief in Him.
But denying God’s existence and proving that He does not exist are two entirely different things.
Ironically, many attempts to remove God from the equation end up reinforcing the very principles they seek to overthrow.
An Illustration That Says More Than Its Creator Intended
Recently, I watched a fascinating demonstration that perfectly illustrates this irony.
A man filled a container with a large number of identical nails. His aim was to demonstrate that order could emerge from chaos without the need for God or an intelligent designer. He vigorously shook the container, believing that if it were shaken long enough, the nails would eventually arrange themselves into an orderly pattern.

As I watched, something became immediately obvious.
He was concentrating so much on what was happening inside the box that he completely overlooked what was happening outside the box.
The nails did not shake themselves.
The box did not move on its own.
The energy did not originate from within the system.
Every movement inside that container depended entirely upon someone outside it.
Without the man holding the box, nothing would have happened.
Without his continual involvement, the nails would have remained exactly as they were.
The irony was impossible to miss.
In attempting to prove that order could arise without an external cause, he had become the external cause.
His own actions illustrated the very principle he was trying to deny.
That demonstration reminded me of our universe.

Everything we observe operates within an ordered system governed by consistent laws. Yet the universe has never explained where those laws came from, why they exist, or what brought the universe itself into existence.
Trying to explain the universe without God often ends by introducing another unexplained cause, another unexplained force, or another eternal reality.
The Bible begins not with an argument but with a declaration:
“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.”
Genesis 1:1 (KJV)
Before there was matter, there was God.
Before there was time, there was God.
Before there was motion, there was God.
The greatest irony is that many attempts to disprove God quietly depend upon the very principles they seek to eliminate.
Let us examine some of the most common attempts.
1. “Science Has Disproved God”
One of the most common claims today is that science has made belief in God unnecessary.
The argument usually goes like this:
“Science explains the universe; therefore God is unnecessary.”
The flaw
Science investigates natural processes.
God, by definition, is not a natural object within the universe. He is understood as the Creator of the universe itself.
Science can tell us:
- How stars form.
- How DNA replicates.
- How gravity behaves.
- How chemical reactions occur.
But science cannot answer questions such as:
- Why is there something rather than nothing?
- Why do the laws of physics exist?
- Why is mathematics so effective at describing reality?
- Why is the universe intelligible at all?
Using science to deny God is like using a microscope to prove justice does not exist because you cannot see it through the lens.
It is a category mistake, not a scientific conclusion.

2. “We Can’t See God”
Many argue that because God cannot be seen, He cannot exist.
Yet some of the most fundamental realities in existence are invisible.
We cannot see:
- Gravity.
- Consciousness.
- Mathematical truths.
- Information.
- Love.
- Electromagnetic fields.
We know they exist because of their effects.
Likewise, Scripture teaches that God’s invisible nature is revealed through His creation.
“For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse.”
Romans 1:20 (KJV)
The objection confuses invisibility with non-existence.

3. “The Big Bang Eliminated God”
Ironically, modern cosmology has strengthened one of the oldest philosophical arguments for God.
The Big Bang indicates that space, time, matter, and energy had a beginning.
If the universe began to exist, then it is reasonable to ask what caused it to begin.
Nothing cannot create something.
A beginning naturally points to a cause beyond itself.

4. “Evolution Disproved God”
Evolution attempts to explain how biological life diversified.
It does not explain:
- Why anything exists.
- Why life exists.
- Why DNA contains information.
- Why the laws governing life exist.
Even if one accepts evolution as a biological process, it does not logically eliminate the possibility of a Creator.
It answers a different question.

5. The Problem of Evil
Perhaps the strongest philosophical objection asks:
“If God is good and all-powerful, why is there suffering?”
This is a serious question.
Yet the argument assumes that evil is objectively real.
If there is no objective moral standard beyond humanity, then “evil” ultimately becomes a matter of opinion, preference, culture, or survival.
The very act of condemning evil appears to appeal to a moral law that transcends human opinion.

6. “There Is No Evidence”
Usually what is meant is:
“There is no evidence that convinces me.”
But there are different kinds of evidence:
- Historical evidence.
- Philosophical evidence.
- Cosmological evidence.
- Moral evidence.
- Experiential evidence.
Rejecting one kind of evidence does not eliminate the others.

7. “Religion Causes Wars”
Even if every religious conflict were accepted as true, it would still not answer the question:
Does God exist?
People misuse science.
People misuse politics.
People misuse medicine.
People misuse money.
Abuse does not determine truth.

8. “There Are Thousands of Religions”
The existence of competing claims does not prove every claim false.
Counterfeit money does not prove genuine currency does not exist.
It proves something valuable is worth imitating.

9. “God Is Just a Human Invention”
This is often asserted rather than demonstrated.
Saying that humans invented God is itself a claim requiring evidence.
An unsupported assertion cannot disprove another claim.

10. “God Is a God of the Gaps”
Classical Christianity has never argued that God merely fills the gaps in scientific knowledge.
God is not presented as an explanation for ignorance.
He is presented as the eternal Creator and Sustainer of all that exists.
Science describes how creation functions.
It does not explain why creation exists in the first place.

11. “Who Created God?”
Perhaps no question is asked more frequently than this one:
“If everything has a creator, then who created God?”
At first glance, it sounds like a devastating question.
In reality, it misunderstands the argument for God’s existence.
Christians do not believe that everything has a cause.
The argument has always been that everything that begins to exist has a cause.
That distinction changes everything.
Your car exists because someone made it.
Your house exists because someone built it.
You exist because your parents brought you into the world.
The universe itself appears to have had a beginning.
But God is presented in Scripture as eternal.
He did not begin.
He simply is.
When Moses asked God’s name, God answered:
“And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.”
Exodus 3:14 (KJV)
God is not one more object inside the universe needing an explanation.
He is the necessary, self-existent Being upon whom everything else depends.
Asking “Who created God?” is like asking:
- What is north of the North Pole?
- Who is the bachelor’s wife?
The question assumes something that does not apply.
If God required a creator, then that creator would be God instead.
Eventually, every worldview must arrive at an eternal, uncaused reality.
Christianity simply identifies that reality as the eternal God.

12. Does the Multiverse Remove the Need for God?
Some argue that there may be countless universes.
If enough universes exist, eventually one would possess the precise conditions necessary for life.
Therefore, they conclude, God is unnecessary.
But notice what has happened.
The question has simply moved.
Instead of asking:
“Who created this universe?”
we now ask:
“What explains the multiverse?”
Even if billions or trillions of universes existed, the multiverse itself would still require an explanation.
Where did it come from?
Why does it exist?
Why does it operate according to mathematical laws?
Adding more universes does not eliminate the need for an ultimate cause.
It merely increases what requires explaining.

13. Can Quantum Mechanics Explain God Away?
One of the most misunderstood claims today is that quantum physics proves something can come from nothing.
That is not what quantum mechanics teaches.
The “nothing” discussed in quantum physics is not absolute nothingness.
It assumes:
- physical laws;
- quantum fields;
- mathematical structure;
- measurable properties.
That is not “nothing.”
It is already a physical framework.
Absolute nothing has:
- no matter;
- no energy;
- no laws;
- no space;
- no time;
- no potential.
Nothing has no power to produce anything.
As the old philosophical principle says:
From nothing, nothing comes.
If there truly were nothing, nothing would still exist today.

14. Richard Dawkins and the “God Delusion”
Richard Dawkins is perhaps the world’s most well-known atheist.
In The God Delusion, he argues that a designer would have to be even more complex than the universe and therefore would require an explanation.
At first this sounds persuasive.
However, classical Christianity has never claimed that God is a complex physical object.
God is not composed of parts.
He is not material.
He does not occupy space as physical objects do.
The argument misunderstands the God described by classical Christian theology.
Furthermore, explaining complexity by appealing to a more fundamental necessary reality is common throughout science. Scientists routinely seek underlying principles that account for complex phenomena. Whether God fulfills that role is debated, but the idea of a necessary explanation is not itself irrational.
Ironically, Dawkins also acknowledges that science cannot presently explain why the laws of physics exist.
The deepest question therefore remains unanswered.
15. Stephen Hawking and the Self-Creating Universe
Stephen Hawking argued that because there is a law such as gravity, the universe could create itself.
Many celebrated this as proving God unnecessary.
But consider the statement carefully.
Where did gravity come from?
Why does gravity exist?
Who established the laws that make gravity possible?
Saying:
“The universe exists because gravity exists”
does not answer the deeper question.
It merely moves it back one step.
Laws do not create themselves.
Nor do laws explain why there are laws.
Imagine telling someone:
“This building exists because of the building regulations.”
The regulations may explain how buildings should be constructed.
They do not construct the building.
Likewise, physical laws describe how nature behaves.
They do not explain why nature exists in the first place.

16. The Fine-Tuning of the Universe
Perhaps one of the strongest modern arguments for God’s existence comes from physics itself.
Scientists have discovered that many of the universe’s fundamental constants appear to fall within extraordinarily narrow ranges that permit life.
If certain values were even slightly different:
- stars could not form;
- chemistry as we know it could not function;
- galaxies might never exist;
- life would be impossible.
The universe appears astonishingly hospitable to intelligent life.
There are several proposed explanations:
- It happened by chance.
- There are infinitely many universes.
- It was designed.
The first appeals to extraordinary luck.
The second remains a speculative hypothesis without direct observational confirmation.
The third proposes that an intelligent Creator intentionally established the universe’s life-permitting conditions.
Christians have long believed exactly that.
David declared:
“The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.”
Psalm 19:1 (KJV)
The more we discover about the precision of creation, the more remarkable those ancient words become.

17. The Greatest Miracle That Atheism Cannot Explain
There is one reality that no scientific equation has yet fully explained.
Consciousness.
How does matter become self-aware?
How do electrical impulses produce:
- love;
- justice;
- beauty;
- imagination;
- worship;
- self-sacrifice?
Human beings are not merely collections of atoms.
We reason.
We create.
We love.
We worship.
We search for meaning.
Ecclesiastes tells us why.
“He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.”
Ecclesiastes 3:11 (KJV)
There is within humanity a longing that reaches beyond matter.
The search for God is not evidence of human weakness.
It may well be evidence that we were made for Him.
The Greatest Logical Problem
Every attempt to prove that God does not exist faces one insurmountable difficulty.
To prove that God does not exist anywhere would require knowledge of every place, every time, every dimension, and every possible reality.
That would require infinite knowledge.
Ironically, one would need qualities traditionally attributed to God in order to prove that God does not exist.
A finite mind cannot conclusively demonstrate the non-existence of an infinite Being.

The Biblical Verdict
The Bible presents unbelief not merely as an intellectual issue but as one involving the heart.
“The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God…”
Psalm 14:1 (KJV)
Notice that Scripture does not say the fool has carefully examined every possible reality and proven God’s non-existence.
It says he has said in his heart there is no God.
That is a declaration of the will before it is a conclusion of the mind.
The Cumulative Case for the Existence of God
After examining many of the arguments used to deny God’s existence, we are left with an important question:
If God exists, what evidence points to Him?
Christian faith is not built upon blind belief.
It rests upon a body of evidence that, when considered together, forms a compelling and coherent picture.
Like strands woven into a rope, each argument strengthens the others.
No single strand carries the entire weight.
Together, they become remarkably difficult to break.

1. The Universe Had a Beginning
Modern cosmology has revealed that the universe is not eternal.
Space had a beginning.
Time had a beginning.
Matter had a beginning.
Energy had a beginning.
Whatever begins to exist requires an adequate explanation.
Nothing cannot produce something.
The most reasonable explanation is an eternal, self-existent Cause that exists beyond space and time.
The Bible declared this long before modern science:
“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.”
Genesis 1:1 (KJV)
2. The Universe Is Astonishingly Ordered
The universe is governed by consistent laws.
Gravity behaves consistently.
Mathematics accurately describes reality.
The laws of physics are reliable across billions of light-years.
Science itself depends upon this order.
Without predictable laws there could be:
- no chemistry;
- no biology;
- no engineering;
- no medicine;
- no scientific investigation.
Order points naturally toward intelligence.
If you discovered a perfectly functioning watch in a desert, you would not conclude that grains of sand accidentally assembled themselves into gears and springs.
The more intricate the design, the more compelling the inference to a designer.
3. The Universe Appears Fine-Tuned for Life
Scientists have identified numerous physical constants that appear to lie within extremely narrow ranges compatible with life.
If these values were even slightly different:
- stars would not form;
- galaxies would collapse or fail to develop;
- chemistry would be impossible;
- life as we know it could not exist.
The precision of the universe is extraordinary.
The heavens truly do declare the glory of God.
“The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.”
Psalm 19:1 (KJV)
4. Objective Morality Points Beyond Humanity
Almost everyone believes certain things are objectively wrong.
Murder.
Torture.
Abusing children.
Genocide.
We do not merely dislike these acts.
We believe they are truly wrong.
But if morality is only the product of evolution, culture, or personal opinion, then there is no ultimate standard by which to judge good and evil.
Objective moral law naturally points toward an objective Moral Lawgiver.
The Bible declares:
“For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law… Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts.”
Romans 2:14–15 (KJV)
Our conscience testifies that there is a law above human law.
5. Human Consciousness Defies Simple Material Explanations
Atoms have no awareness.
Molecules possess no imagination.
Chemical reactions do not appreciate beauty.
Yet somehow human beings:
- reason;
- create music;
- write poetry;
- pursue justice;
- worship;
- love sacrificially.
Consciousness remains one of the deepest mysteries in science.
The Bible explains that humanity is different because mankind bears the image of God.
“So God created man in his own image…”
Genesis 1:27 (KJV)
We are more than matter arranged in complex ways.
6. The Historical Person of Jesus Christ
Christianity does not begin with a philosophy.
It begins with a Person.
Jesus Christ lived in history.
He taught publicly.
He was crucified.
His followers proclaimed His resurrection even when it cost them imprisonment, persecution, and death.
People may debate the meaning of those events.
But history cannot simply erase them.
The resurrection remains the central claim upon which Christianity stands or falls.
As the Apostle Paul wrote:
“And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.”
1 Corinthians 15:14 (KJV)
Christianity uniquely invites its central historical claim to be examined.
7. The Unity of the Bible
The Bible consists of sixty-six books.
It was written over approximately fifteen hundred years.
More than forty authors contributed.
They wrote in different places.
Different languages.
Different cultures.
Different occupations.
Yet together they tell one unfolding story.
Creation.
Fall.
Redemption.
Restoration.
From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible consistently reveals God’s plan to redeem humanity through Jesus Christ.
Such unity across centuries is extraordinary.
8. The Transforming Power of the Gospel
Perhaps the greatest evidence is found in changed lives.
The Gospel has transformed:
- criminals into servants;
- addicts into witnesses;
- broken families into restored homes;
- persecutors into preachers.
Across every nation, language, and generation, millions testify that Christ has radically changed them.
No laboratory can measure forgiveness.
No telescope can observe peace with God.
Yet their effects are unmistakable.
Jesus declared:
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV)
For over two thousand years, countless lives have stood as living testimony to that promise.
The Verdict
When considered individually, some may dismiss one argument or another.
But together they form a remarkable cumulative case.
A universe with a beginning.
A universe governed by intelligible laws.
A universe exquisitely fine-tuned for life.
Objective morality.
Human consciousness.
The historical person of Jesus Christ.
The unity of Scripture.
The transforming power of the Gospel.
None of these stand in isolation.
Each points in the same direction.
Together they present a coherent explanation that blind chance, impersonal forces, and materialism struggle to match.
The God revealed in Scripture is not a “God of the gaps.”
He is the God of beginnings.
The God of order.
The God of life.
The God of truth.
The God who sustains every atom of creation.
As Paul declared to the philosophers in Athens:
“For in him we live, and move, and have our being…”
Acts 17:28 (KJV)

Final Thoughts
The greatest tragedy is not that some people reject God.
God remains God whether He is acknowledged or denied.
The greater tragedy is that many spend their lives trying to explain away the One who explains everything else.
Every sunrise proclaims His faithfulness.
Every law of nature reflects His wisdom.
Every human conscience whispers His righteousness.
Every longing for purpose points beyond this world.
And every page of Scripture declares His love.
One day, every argument will cease.
Every debate will end.
Every philosopher will lay down his books.
Every scientist will finish his research.
Every sceptic will stand before the reality they once questioned.
The Bible leaves us with this solemn reminder:
“That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
Philippians 2:10–11 (KJV)
The question has never been whether God exists.
The evidence points overwhelmingly to the fact that He does.
The real question is this:
What will you do with the God who has revealed Himself to you?
Conclusion
Humanity has split the atom, mapped the human genome, landed on the moon, and sent spacecraft beyond our solar system.
Yet after thousands of years of philosophy, science, and debate, no one has produced a conclusive demonstration that God does not exist.
Many have challenged arguments for God.
Many have rejected belief in God.
But no one has eliminated the need for an ultimate explanation of reality.
Every attempt to remove God eventually encounters questions that science cannot answer, philosophy cannot escape, and human reason cannot silence.
The opening words of Scripture remain as profound today as when they were first written:
“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.”
Genesis 1:1 (KJV)
The question has never been whether God needs us to acknowledge Him.
The question is whether we are willing to acknowledge the overwhelming evidence that points to Him.
The Message Bearer, Cornelius Bella
