The call of God into ministry is powerful, but it does not automatically produce spiritual maturity in the life of a pastor. A minister may successfully guide many people into their destinies while neglecting his own personal spiritual growth. Scripture repeatedly warns that preaching to others must never replace personal discipline, study, prayer, and intimacy with God. In this expository teaching, we examine why the calling cannot substitute for personal spiritual development, and why every pastor must intentionally cultivate a deep walk with God so that after ministering to others, he himself will not become a castaway.
