FAITH FOR GREATER WORKS

An Expository Christian Teaching on the Possibility of the Impossible

1. The Foundation of Greater Works

The concept of greater works is not motivational rhetoric—it is a divine expectation rooted in the words of our Lord Jesus Christ.

John 14:12 (KJV)

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.”

This scripture establishes three foundational truths:

Belief is the gateway → “He that believeth on me”

Continuity of Christ’s works → “the works that I do shall he do also”

Escalation into greater dimensions → “greater works than these shall he do”

The Greek word for believeth here is “pisteuō”—which goes beyond mental agreement. According to a Bible concordance, it means to entrust oneself fully, to rely upon, to commit unto.

👉 This means greater works are not for admirers of Christ, but for those who are fully yielded to Him.

2. The Indwelling Power: “Greater Is He That Is Within You”

1 John 4:4 (KJV)

“Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.”

This is not poetic encouragement—it is a spiritual reality of divine habitation.

“He that is in you” refers to the Holy Spirit “He that is in the world” refers to satanic systems and influences

From a Bible dictionary perspective, the Holy Spirit is described as:

The empowering presence of God

The executor of divine will on earth

The carrier of resurrection power (Romans 8:11)

👉 Therefore, greater works are possible because the Greater One lives within you.

You are not trying to become powerful—you are learning to release the power already within you.

3. The Invisible Advantage: “More Are They That Are With Us”

2 Kings 6:16 (KJV)

“And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.”

This was spoken by Elisha when they were surrounded by enemy forces.

2 Kings 6:17 (KJV)

“And Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.”

This reveals a powerful truth:

The physical situation looked limiting

The spiritual reality was overwhelmingly superior

From a concordance insight:

With us” implies divine backing, angelic reinforcement, and covenant alignment

👉 Faith for greater works requires seeing beyond the visible into the invisible advantage you carry.

4. The Nature of Faith Required for Greater Works

Hebrews 11:1 (KJV)

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

Faith is:

Substance (Greek: “hypostasis”) → underlying reality, foundation Evidence (Greek: “elegchos”) → proof, conviction

This means:

👉 Faith makes the invisible real and the future present.

Without this kind of faith:

Greater works remain theoretical

Divine possibilities remain untapped

5. Faith Must Be Alive and Working

James 2:17 (KJV)

“Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.”

Faith for greater works is not passive—it is active, responsive, and obedient.

Faith speaks (2 Corinthians 4:13)

Faith acts (Matthew 14:29 – Peter walked on water)

Faith persists (Mark 5:25–34 – woman with the issue of blood)

👉 Dead faith discusses possibilities. Living faith produces results.

6. The Role of Revelation in Greater Works

Ephesians 1:17–18 (KJV)

“That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:

The eyes of your understanding being enlightened…”

You cannot step into greater works by information alone—you need revelation.

Revelation unlocks identity

Identity fuels confidence

Confidence activates faith

👉 Until you see, you cannot manifest.

7. Removing the Limitations to Greater Works

Several factors hinder believers from walking in greater works:

a. Unbelief

Mark 6:5 (KJV)

“And he could there do no mighty work… because of their unbelief.”

Even Jesus was limited—not by power, but by people’s unbelief.

b. Fear

Fear contradicts faith.

2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV)

“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”

c. Carnality

Romans 8:6 (KJV)

“For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.”

👉 Greater works require a spirit-governed life.

8. The Pattern of Greater Works in Scripture

Throughout the Bible, we see a pattern:

Moses confronted Pharaoh with supernatural authority

Elijah called down fire from heaven

Elisha performed double the miracles of Elijah

The Apostles raised the dead, healed the sick, and shook cities

This progression shows that:

👉 God is not reducing His power across generations—He is expanding its expression through yielded vessels.

9. Practical Pathways to Walking in Greater Works

To step into this dimension:

1. Deepen your intimacy with God

Greater works flow from relationship, not activity.

2. Build your faith through the Word

Romans 10:17 (KJV)

“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

3. Yield to the Holy Spirit

He is the One who executes greater works.

4. Act on what God says

Obedience is the bridge between promise and manifestation.

5. Stay spiritually sensitive

Discern divine instructions and timings.

10. A Call to Rise

Faith for greater works is not for a select few—it is the inheritance of every believer.

You are not ordinary.

You are not alone.

You are not limited.

Romans 8:11 (KJV)

“But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you… he shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.”

👉 The same Spirit that raised Christ is at work in you.

Conclusion

Greater is He that is in you → You carry divine power More are they that are with us → You have invisible backing Faith is the substance → You have the mechanism

What remains is your response.

Will you believe?

Will you act?

Will you step into greater works?
