How Satan Gains Entry — and What to Do So He Does Not
Key Text:
Luke 22:3 (KJV)
“Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.”

Few statements in Scripture are as sobering as this. Judas was not a pagan, not an outsider, not an unbeliever. He was one of the Twelve — a man who walked with Jesus, heard His teachings, witnessed miracles, and handled ministry funds.
Yet the Bible says plainly: “Then Satan entered into Judas.”
This verse reveals a dangerous truth: proximity to Jesus does not equal protection from Satan. Spiritual exposure is not the same as spiritual security.
1. Satan Does Not Enter Randomly — He Enters Legally

Satan is not omnipotent. He cannot force himself into a life. He requires access points.
Ephesians 4:27 (KJV)
“Neither give place to the devil.”
The word place means room, space, legal ground. Judas gave Satan room before Satan entered.
Satan looks for:
Open doors Unhealed wounds Unsubmitted areas Unchecked desires
He enters where permission has been granted, whether consciously or unconsciously.
2. Judas’ Doorway Was Not Hatred — It Was Desire
Most people assume Judas betrayed Jesus out of anger. Scripture says otherwise.
John 12:6 (KJV)
“This he said, not that he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and bare what was put therein.”

Judas’ issue was not rebellion first — it was greed.
The door Satan used was:
Love of money Secret compromise Private sin hidden behind public ministry
Satan entered through an uncrucified appetite.
3. Exposure Without Transformation Is Dangerous
Judas had:
Revelation without regeneration Ministry without mastery over self Authority without accountability
Matthew 26:23 (KJV)
“He that dippeth his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me.”
He ate at the table of Christ but never allowed Christ to deal with his heart.
It is possible to:
Sing in worship and still be bound Preach truth and still live in secret compromise Serve God and still serve self
Satan prefers religious people who never submit.
They are easier to use than sinners who know they are lost.
4. Satan Enters in Stages, Not Suddenly
Luke says “then” Satan entered — meaning something happened before that moment.
From Scripture we see the progression:
Seed – wrong desire allowed Silence – sin hidden, not confessed Strengthening – habit becomes character Submission – will becomes aligned with darkness Possession – Satan takes over the seat of decision
By the time Satan “entered,” Judas had already opened every internal gate.
5. Satan Enters Where There Is No Lordship
The issue is not Satan’s power — it is Christ’s authority in your life.
James 4:7 (KJV)
“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

Notice the order:
Submit to God Then resist the devil
You cannot resist what you have not submitted to.
Satan enters where:
Christ is admired but not obeyed Truth is heard but not practiced Conviction is felt but ignored
How to Block Satan’s Entry Completely
1. Live in Continual Self-Examination
2 Corinthians 13:5 (KJV)
“Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves.”
Ask:
What am I tolerating that God is correcting? What am I hiding that heaven is exposing?
2. Kill Private Sin Ruthlessly
Romans 8:13 (KJV)
“If ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.”
What you don’t kill today will control you tomorrow.
3. Stay Under Spiritual Authority
Judas had proximity to Jesus but no submission of heart.
Spiritual covering only works for the submissive, not the familiar.
4. Guard Your Desires
Proverbs 4:23 (KJV)
“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”
Satan does not start with your actions — he starts with your desires.
5. Stay Broken, Not Brilliant
Pride makes you impressive.
Brokenness makes you untouchable.
The Greatest Protection Is Not Power — It Is Lordship

The safest believer is not the most gifted, anointed, or visible.
It is the one who can say sincerely:
Galatians 2:20 (KJV)
“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me.”
Satan cannot enter where self has died.
He enters:
where ego reigns where appetite rules where submission is absent
But he flees from:
yielded hearts repentant spirits surrendered wills
Final Warning from Judas’ Life
Judas proves one terrifying truth:
It is possible to be close to Jesus and still be controlled by Satan.
Not because Jesus is weak —
But because human hearts can remain unsubmitted.
Final Prayer
Lord, search me. Expose every door. Heal every hidden place. Kill every appetite that is not from You. I choose full submission, not partial surrender. Let nothing in me give Satan access. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Spiritual Rule:
Satan does not enter where Christ is truly Lord.
He only enters where Christ is present but not obeyed.
