Presumptuous sin is not ordinary temptation or momentary weakness—it is willful, bold, and calculated sin committed with the assumption that God will overlook it. It says in the heart: “I can do this and still escape consequences. God will forgive me anyway.” This mindset is spiritually lethal.

What is Presumptuous Sin?
The word presumptuous means acting arrogantly, without permission, or without reverence. In Scripture, it describes sin done intentionally, knowingly, and defiantly.
David prayed:
“Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me…”
— Psalm 19:13 (KJV)
This shows that even a man after God’s heart feared the power and control such sin can gain over a believer.
Presumptuous Sin vs. Forgivable Sin
Not all sin is the same in posture.
Forgivable sin comes with: Conviction Repentance Godly sorrow “For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation…”
— 2 Corinthians 7:10 (KJV)
Presumptuous sin comes with: Pride Justification Deliberate rebellion No intention to change Assumption of impunity
God’s response to this posture is severe:
“The soul that doeth ought presumptuously… the same reproacheth the Lord; and that soul shall be cut off from among his people.”
— Numbers 15:30 (KJV)
This was not about accidental sin—it was about despising God Himself through intentional disobedience.
God Does Forgive, But Not Where There Is No Repentance
The statement “God does not forgive such sins” must be understood accurately:
God does not forgive any sin—presumptuous or otherwise—when it is defended, unrepented of, or assumed as consequence-free. The issue is not God’s inability to forgive, but man’s refusal to repent. Forgiveness flows only where repentance exists.
Jesus warned:
“Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.”
— Luke 13:3 (KJV)
Therefore, presumptuous sin is not unforgivable because of its category—it becomes unforgivable because of its posture of rebellion without repentance.
The Core Danger

Presumptuous sin produces:
A hardened conscience 1 Timothy 4:2 (KJV) speaks of a conscience seared with a hot iron Spiritual deception
“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.”
— Galatians 6:7 (KJV)
Mockery toward God’s holiness The belief that grace equals permission
But grace is not license.
Jude warned of those who:
“turn the grace of our God into lasciviousness (a license to sin).”
— Jude 1:4 (KJV)
You Are Not Getting Away With Sin
No one sins successfully against God.
Solomon declared:
“Though a sinner do evil an hundred times, and his days be prolonged, yet surely I know that it shall be well with them that fear God… but it shall not be well with the wicked.”
— Ecclesiastes 8:12–13 (KJV)
Meaning: Even if judgement seems delayed, escape is never evidence of approval.
How to Stay Clear of Presumptuous Sin
Maintain a tender conscience before God Never rationalize disobedience Fear God more than consequences Run to repentance quickly Never confuse mercy for permission
Final Charge
Do not assume you can sin and go unchallenged. Do not assume grace will cover what repentance refuses to release. The most dangerous believer is the one who thinks God is permissive toward deliberate rebellion.
Remember:
“For our God is a consuming fire.”
— Hebrews 12:29 (KJV)
God forgives the repentant, but He does not partner with the arrogant.
Salvation: The Mercy You Must Receive Today
Friend, God’s mercy is available to you right now, but mercy is received—not presumed upon. The first step away from rebellion and into forgiveness is repentance and surrender to Jesus Christ.
If you know you’ve sinned with a hardened heart or walked far from God, this is your moment to return. God is calling you—not to condemn you, but to save you.
“Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and He will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.”
— Isaiah 55:7 (KJV)
Jesus paid the full price for your salvation. If you will turn to Him sincerely, He will cleanse you and make you new.
A Prayer of Salvation
Pray this from your heart:
Lord Jesus,
I come to You today.
I acknowledge that I am a sinner in need of Your mercy.
I repent of my sins—known and unknown, deliberate and presumptuous.
I renounce rebellion, pride, and every assumption that kept me from obeying You.
I believe You died for me, and God raised You from the dead.
Come into my heart. Be my Lord and my Savior.
Wash me with Your blood. Give me a new spirit.
I surrender my life to You.
From today, I belong to You.
Amen.
If you prayed that sincerely, welcome to God’s family. You are forgiven, reborn, and redeemed.
“If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
— 2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV)

A Final Prayer for You
Father, I pray for everyone reading this.
Let the dominion of sin be broken.
Let hearts remain soft before You.
Establish every life in obedience, holiness, and spiritual strength.
As they join Your family, plant them where they will grow, be discipled, and fulfill Your counsel.
Keep their feet from falling.
Preserve them by Your Spirit.
In Jesus’ name—Amen.
