An Expository Teaching on Marital Agreement, Divine Order, and Spiritual Warfare
INTRODUCTION
Every structure in life depends on a centre—a stabilising core that holds every part together. When the centre is intact, the structure thrives; when the centre weakens, collapse begins.
In marriage and parenting, the centre God designed is unity, alignment, and agreement between husband, wife, and God. This threefold centre forms the divine cord that cannot be broken (Ecclesiastes 4:12).
This is why satan’s oldest and most consistent strategy has always been to attack marriage and parenting—because whoever destabilises the centre destabilises the entire generation connected to it.
1. GOD BUILT MARRIAGE ON THE PRINCIPLE OF AGREEMENT
The First Marriage Was Born From Unity of Purpose
When God formed Eve and brought her to Adam (Genesis 2:22–24), He was establishing a divine pattern:
Two people One purpose One assignment One Spirit One centre — God
God did not create a roommate for Adam; He created a partner suited to his divine mandate.
He didn’t form two separate callings in the home; He created one calling expressed through two lives.
Agreement Is Not Optional — It Is a Spiritual Law
“Can two walk together, except they be agreed?” — Amos 3:3
Walking together spiritually, emotionally, financially, and in parenting requires deliberate and continuous alignment.
Where alignment ends, progress also ends.
2. THE 3-FOLD CORD: GOD + HUSBAND + WIFE
The Strength Is in the Fusion, Not the Number
“A threefold cord is not quickly broken.” — Ecclesiastes 4:12
Notice the scripture does not say:
“Husband + wife = unbreakable cord.” It says the cord becomes unbreakable only when God is the third strand.
Without God, marriage becomes:
Two opinions Two histories Two wounds Two temperaments Two weaknesses Two interpretations
But with God at the centre, marriage becomes:
One vision One direction One Spirit One strength One foundation One source of truth
This is why the strongest marriages are not the most romantic ones, but the most God-aligned ones.
3. WHY SATAN FIGHTS THE UNITY OF MARRIAGE
Satan Attacks What Has Power
Unity between husband and wife activates divine results:
“If two of you shall agree… it shall be done.” — Matthew 18:19
Agreement in marriage multiplies spiritual authority.
A united husband and wife can:
Dislodge generational curses Raise godly children Push back darkness Break cycles of poverty Birth ministries and destinies Establish divine order in the home
Satan understands this better than many believers.
He knows a united couple is dangerous to his agenda.
So he attacks the agreement, not the marriage certificate.
4. SATAN’S PRIMARY TOOL: DISCORD
Discord Weakens the Centre of the Home
Paul warned that division gives satan an advantage:
“Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.” — 2 Corinthians 2:11
His devices in marriage include:
Miscommunication Silent treatments Unresolved offence Emotional distance Competing visions Suspicion Tiredness Wrong influences Bitterness Pride Differences in parenting approach
The devil does not need to break the house;
he only needs to break the agreement.
Once the centre shifts, everything around it begins to fall apart.
5. DISUNITY IN PARENTING EXPOSES CHILDREN TO SPIRITUAL ATTACK
Children Are Covered by Parental Agreement
The family is a spiritual ecosystem.
Parental unity creates:
Emotional safety Spiritual covering Character formation Direction Identity Boundaries
But parental disunity creates:
Confusion Manipulation Rebellion Vulnerability Open doors for the enemy
Satan knows that attacking the agreement of the parents is the fastest way to affect the destiny of the children.
Why the Enemy Targets Parenting Decisions
Because parenting is not just about raising children — it is about shaping destinies.
This is why disagreements around:
Discipline Schooling Technology Friends Values Boundaries Spiritual practices
…must be resolved quickly and spiritually.
When parents contradict each other before the children, the centre weakens.
Where the centre weakens, the enemy enters.
6. AGREEMENT IS A SPIRITUAL FORCE — NOT JUST AN EMOTIONAL STATE
Agreement Begins in the Spirit, Not in Feelings
Agreement in marriage is not:
“We like the same things.” “We think the same way.” “We never argue.”
Biblical agreement is:
Shared submission to God Joint obedience to Scripture Spirit-led decision making Mutual honour Unified purpose A Christ-centred posture
Agreement means:
We may not feel the same thing,
but we will obey the same God.
7. HOW TO KEEP THE CENTRE STRONG
These are not suggestions; they are survival laws for the Christian home:
1. Pray Together Daily
Prayer fuses your spirits and aligns your hearing.
2. Forgive Quickly
Unforgiveness is satan’s strongest breeding ground.
3. Keep God’s Word as the Final Authority
Not culture, not personal preference.
4. Talk Openly and Humbly
Secrets and silence destroy the centre.
5. Make Major Decisions in Agreement
Refuse to move forward until both hear God.
6. Parent as One Team
Agree behind closed doors; stand as one before the children.
7. Maintain God’s Voice as Your Compass
A marriage without divine direction will always drift.
When you enforce these spiritual patterns, marriage becomes:
Balanced Stable Wise Fruitful Protected Anointed
And the centre remains unshaken.
CONCLUSION: WHEN THE CENTRE HOLDS, THE FAMILY STANDS
When husband, wife, and God form an unbreakable centre:
satan loses his access children flourish destiny unfolds prayers are answered peace rests in the home purpose advances the marriage becomes a testimony
But when the centre cannot hold, things begin to fall apart.
Guard your centre.
Protect your unity.
Fight for agreement.
Let God be the third strand.
Your marriage was designed to be unbreakable when God holds the centre.
