🕊️ The Necessity of Believing: “If Thou Wouldest Believe, Thou Shouldest See the Glory of God”

Text: John 11:39–42 (KJV)

“Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days.

Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?

Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.

And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me.”

🔹 INTRODUCTION: BELIEVING IS GOD’S ENTRY POINT

Faith is not an optional spiritual accessory — it is the foundation of your relationship with God. Every divine encounter begins where belief begins.

When Jesus came to Lazarus’s tomb, He was not moved by the stench of death or the heaviness of the stone; He was searching for belief. The miracle was not hindered by the grave — it was hindered by doubt.

Beloved, until you believe, you cannot see the glory of God.

🔹 1. BELIEF OPENS THE DOOR TO GOD’S REALITY

When Jesus said, “Take ye away the stone,” He called them to act on faith. The stone represented human logic and hopelessness — the boundary between what man had accepted and what God was about to reveal.

Martha’s reasoning — “Lord, by this time he stinketh” — mirrors our tendency to let facts override faith. But Jesus answered:

“Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?”

Believing transforms your perspective. It shifts you from decay to restoration, from finality to possibility.

📖 Mark 9:23 (KJV) — “If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.”

🔹 2. BELIEVING PRECEDES SEEING

God’s order is always: believe first, then see.

The world says, “Seeing is believing,” but Heaven says, “Believing is seeing.”

Faith becomes your spiritual eyesight. Before Lazarus ever walked out of that tomb, faith had already opened the way for resurrection power to flow.

📖 Hebrews 11:6 (KJV) — “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”

🔹 3. BELIEF IS THE LANGUAGE OF HEAVEN

When Jesus prayed, He said:

“Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me… and I knew that thou hearest me always.”

He prayed from certainty, not doubt. Faith gives thanks before the miracle happens.

📖 2 Corinthians 5:7 (KJV) — “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”

The believer’s vocabulary is gratitude before manifestation. Faith celebrates what Heaven has already settled — even when earth hasn’t seen it yet.

🔹 4. BELIEVING GLORIFIES GOD

Lazarus’s resurrection wasn’t just about comforting the sisters — it was about revealing God’s glory. Jesus prayed publicly, not to prove Himself, but “that they may believe that Thou hast sent Me.”

Every act of faith magnifies God. Unbelief hides His glory; faith unveils it.

📖 Romans 4:20–21 (KJV) — “He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;

And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.”

🔹 5. WHEN YOU BELIEVE, STONES MOVE AND THE DEAD RISE

Believing is not passive — it demands obedience. When they obeyed and rolled the stone away, resurrection power met their faith.

Every miracle begins with an instruction. There is always a “Take ye away the stone” moment — a step of obedience that prepares the ground for glory.

What stone stands in your way today? Fear, shame, unbelief, or delay?

Roll it away. Believe again!

📖 John 11:43–44 (KJV) — “And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.

And he that was dead came forth…”

🔹 CONCLUSION: THE GLORY AWAITS YOUR BELIEF

Belief is the key that opens Heaven’s door.

Jesus is still saying today:

“Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?”

No matter how long the situation has been “dead,” God can still bring life out of decay.

Only believe, and you will see His glory.

🙏🏽 PRAYER

Father, I choose to believe Your Word above my circumstances.

Help me roll away every stone of fear, doubt, and unbelief.

Let my faith rise again, and let Your glory be revealed in my life.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
