As believers, we are called to walk by faith and not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7). The world around us may seem chaotic, and evil may seem pervasive, but the wisdom of God compels us to focus not on the forces of darkness, but on the sovereignty and power of God. The Bible repeatedly encourages us to know our God, His power, and His promises, for in Him lies our victory, strength, and protection.
Understanding Who God Is
The first step to walking in victory is having a revelation of who God is. Throughout Scripture, God reveals Himself as omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent. The Psalmist declares, “Great is our Lord, and of great power: His understanding is infinite” (Psalm 147:5). In Jeremiah 32:17, the prophet extols, “Ah Lord GOD! Behold, thou hast made the heaven and the earth by thy great power and stretched out arm, and there is nothing too hard for thee.”
This truth of God’s unlimited power must be engraved in our hearts. It is wisdom to know that our God is more than able to deliver us from any trial or challenge. His promises are yes and amen (2 Corinthians 1:20), and His faithfulness is unshakable. The more aware we are of who God is, the stronger our faith becomes, for “faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Romans 10:17). It is this faith that equips us to overcome the world.
Ignorance Is Not an Option
While we are to live in the light of God’s majesty and power, Scripture also cautions us not to be ignorant of the devil’s devices. Paul warned the early church, “Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices” (2 Corinthians 2:11). Here, Paul reminds us that while our focus should always be on God, we must also remain alert to the enemy’s strategies.
The enemy’s goal is simple: to deceive, to kill, and to destroy (John 10:10). He uses lies, distractions, and temptations to pull believers away from God’s truth. But Scripture provides a powerful defense. In Ephesians 6:11, Paul exhorts believers to “put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” This armor includes the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the shield of faith, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. By equipping ourselves with these, we can resist the enemy’s attacks and stand firm in our faith.
Walking in Wisdom and Discernment
God has given us not only faith but also wisdom. In Proverbs 4:7, the Bible tells us, “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.” Godly wisdom helps us navigate the complexities of life, discerning what is from God and what is from the enemy. It is wisdom to be grounded in the knowledge of God, for “the fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom” (Proverbs 9:10).
In this spiritual journey, wisdom also means maintaining an eternal perspective. We are not fighting against flesh and blood, but against spiritual forces of evil (Ephesians 6:12). Therefore, our weapons are not carnal but mighty through God for pulling down strongholds (2 Corinthians 10:4). Wisdom empowers us to discern the enemy’s tactics and, more importantly, to rely on God’s omnipotence rather than our own strength.
Faith and Victory in Christ
True faith requires us to look beyond the seen to the unseen, trusting fully in God’s promises. Hebrews 11:1 tells us, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” As believers, our confidence must rest in the finished work of Christ on the cross. He has already defeated the enemy. Colossians 2:15 proclaims, “And having spoiled principalities and powers, He made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.”
This victory is not something we have to earn; it is something we live in by faith. When we trust God and His Word more than the challenges or temptations before us, we live in triumph. Romans 8:37 declares, “Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us.” Christ’s victory is our victory.
Conclusion: Focus on God, Stand Against the Enemy
In these times, wisdom and faith demand that we be more aware of who God is and what He has accomplished through Christ than of the devil and his schemes. We are not to be passive, but active in our faith, fully clothed in the armor of God, vigilant yet unshaken. Our God reigns, and His power is far greater than anything the enemy can devise.
So, beloved, let us “cast all your care upon Him; for He careth for you” (1 Peter 5:7). Our faith rests not in our ability to resist the enemy, but in God’s ability to deliver us. As we grow in the knowledge of God and His power, we are equipped to walk in victory and wisdom, overcoming every challenge and defeating every scheme of the enemy.
Jesus has already won the battle—let us live in that victory, unshaken, unafraid, and fully confident in His mighty power.
