What are your thoughts on the concept of living a very long life?
In a world that often pursues the fountain of youth and longevity, the timeless wisdom of the Bible sheds light on a truth that transcends the temporal—the concept of living a very long life. John 3:16 anchors us in the eternal perspective, reminding us that there is no life longer than the one offered through belief in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Embracing Eternal Life:
The crux of our existence lies not in the span of our earthly days but in the promise of eternal life. John 3:16 resonates deeply: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” The pursuit of a purposeful life, guided by faith, extends beyond the limitations of time.
Confession and Belief:
Romans 10:9-10 reinforces the transformative power of belief and confession: “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.” Living a life anchored in faith ensures the promise of eternal life.
Purpose Over Longevity:
While the idea of a long life may be appealing, the emphasis in the Scriptures lies in living a life of purpose. Ecclesiastes 12:13 advises, “Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.” Our purpose is intertwined with our relationship with God and the impact we have on others, shaping our legacy beyond mere longevity.
Living a Legacy:
Rather than merely counting the years, let us focus on leaving a legacy of love, kindness, and faith. Matthew 6:19-20 directs our attention to eternal treasures: “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven.
