The Higher Life: A Gateway to God’s Better Life

In our quest for a fulfilling existence, let’s anchor our journey in the timeless wisdom of Matthew 6:33 (AMP): “But first and most importantly, seek (aim at, strive after) His kingdom and His righteousness [His way of doing and being right—the attitude and character of God], and all these things will be given to you also.”

Feeling inferior due to material lack reveals an inner emptiness. To satiate the thirst for a better life, embrace the Higher life available in God (John 4:14, AMP): “But whoever takes a drink of the water that I will give him shall never, no never, be thirsty any more. But the water that I will give him shall become a spring of water welling up (flowing, bubbling) [continually] within him unto (into, for) eternal life.”

To avoid deception by external allurements, focus on cultivating your inner self – your spirit and mindset. The proof of walking with God lies in understanding Him (Proverbs 3:5-6, AMP): “Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths.”

While the world may measure success by visible achievements, remember that there’s more in God (Ephesians 3:20, AMP): “Now to Him Who, by (in consequence of) the [action of His] power that is at work within us, is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly, far over and above all that we [dare] ask or think [infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes, or dreams].”

He doesn’t just offer a better life; He extends the invitation to a Higher life. Ask yourself: What have you become in your pursuit of success? Differentiate between good and bad success, ensuring your journey aligns with God’s will (Psalm 37:4, AMP): “Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He will give you the desires and secret petitions of your heart.”

The Higher life commands the better life; it doesn’t merely produce it. Resist the temptations of pursuing a better life without the foundation of the Higher life (Colossians 3:2, AMP): “And set your minds and keep them set on what is above (the higher things), not on the things that are on the earth.”

Be like Joseph, who pursued the higher life, and God added the better life to him (Genesis 39:2-6, AMP): “But the Lord was with Joseph, and he [though a slave] was a successful and prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.”

Amidst the devil’s allurements for a seemingly better life, stand firm in your pursuit of the Higher life (James 4:7, AMP): “So be subject to God. Resist the devil [stand firm against him], and he will flee from you.”

Don’t sacrifice the profound connection with God for mere temporal gains. Let the Holy Spirit guide you, providing insights beyond human comprehension (John 14:26, AMP): “But the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy
