What skill would you like to learn?
In our ever-changing world, it’s natural to seek skills that are not only versatile but also enduring, skills that will serve us faithfully in any situation or job. As Christians, we can turn to the Bible for guidance on the kind of wisdom and skills that stand the test of time.
1. The Skill of Wisdom:
Proverbs 4:7 (KJV) instructs us, “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore, get wisdom: and with all thy getting, get understanding.” In a world of uncertainty, wisdom is a timeless skill that guides us in making right choices, no matter where life takes us.
2. The Skill of Love:
1 Corinthians 13:2 (AMP) reminds us, “And if I have the gift of prophecy [and speak a new message from God to the people], and understand all mysteries, and [possess] all knowledge; and if I have all [sufficient] faith so that I can remove mountains, but do not have love [reaching out to others], I am nothing.” Love, a skill exemplified by Christ, transcends professions and situations.
3. The Skill of Service:
Mark 10:45 (TPT) says, “For even the Son of Man did not come expecting to be served by everyone, but to serve everyone, and to give his life in exchange for the salvation of many.” Learning the skill of serving others selflessly is a trait that remains invaluable.
4. The Skill of Faith:
Hebrews 11:6 (KJV) tells us, “But without faith, it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” In any situation, faith in God’s guidance and provision is a skill that never fails.
5. The Skill of Adaptation:
Philippians 4:12-13 (AMP) reminds us of the skill of contentment: “I know how to get along and live humbly [in difficult times], and I also know how to enjoy abundance and live in prosperity. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret [of facing life], whether well-fed or going hungry, whether having an abundance or being in need.” The ability to adapt and find contentment in all circumstances is a valuable life skill.
6. The Skill of Prayer:
1 Thessalonians 5:17 (KJV) encourages us, “Pray without ceasing.” Prayer is a skill that connects us with God’s wisdom and guidance, providing strength and clarity no matter where life’s journey leads.
In our quest for skills that are eternally useful, let us prioritize wisdom, love, service, faith, adaptation, and prayer. These skills are not bound by job titles or specific situations; they are timeless and can be applied to any aspect of life. As we grow in these skills, we equip ourselves to navigate life’s twists and turns with grace, purpose, and an unwavering trust in the Lord who guides our steps.
