What brings you peace?
In a world filled with turmoil and uncertainty, where can we find genuine and lasting peace? The answer lies in the embrace of not a what but rather the who – One who bestows upon us a peace that transcends all human understanding. That One is none other than our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. As we read in the book of John, Jesus assures us with these comforting words: “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (John 14:27, KJV)
The peace that Jesus offers is not contingent on external situations or fleeting moments of happiness. It is a profound and enduring peace that remains unshaken, even in the midst of life’s storms. The apostle Paul eloquently describes this divine peace in his letter to the Philippians: “And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:7, KJV)
The world’s peace is temporary and often dependent on favourable conditions. However, the peace that Jesus imparts is an inner calm that transcends human logic. It’s a peace that enables us to navigate through trials, tribulations, and challenges with unwavering trust in God’s sovereign plan. As Isaiah 26:3 reminds us, “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.” (Isaiah 26:3, KJV)
When we surrender our fears, worries, and anxieties to Jesus, He grants us a serenity that defies understanding. As we read in the book of Philippians, “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7, KJV)
In times of turmoil, let us remember that the world’s peace is fleeting, but Jesus’ peace is eternal. By fixing our gaze on Him and anchoring our hearts in His love, we can experience the type of peace that transcends circumstances and uplifts our spirits. As the Psalmist proclaims, “I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in safety.” (Psalm 4:8, KJV)
So, who brings us peace that surpasses all human understanding? The resounding answer is Jesus Christ. His love, grace, and presence envelop us with a tranquillity that no worldly source can provide. Let us cling to His promises, trusting that His peace will safeguard our hearts and minds, even amidst life’s greatest challenges.
