If you could host a dinner and anyone you invite was sure to come, who would you invite?
As Christians, we understand the significance of surrounding ourselves with the right people at all times. Our choices should be intentional and guided by God’s Word. Even when given the opportunity to invite anyone to dinner, it is crucial to ask ourselves why and who we should invite. Let us explore the wisdom of the Scriptures and discover the transformative power of purposeful invitations.
1. Walking with the Wise:
Proverbs 13:20 reminds us, “Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.” This verse emphasizes the importance of choosing companions who align with God’s wisdom. When we invite those who reflect godly character and values, we create an environment conducive to growth and spiritual edification.
2. Seeking God’s Guidance:
When contemplating whom to invite, we must seek God’s guidance. Our actions should be guided by two major principles: acting in God’s Name and for His glory. Proverbs 3:6 encourages us, “In all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” By seeking His will, we can ensure that our choices align with His divine purpose.
3. Learning from the Banquet:
Luke 14:15-24 presents a parable about a banquet where many were invited, but they all made excuses not to attend. Eventually, the master invited the most unlikely and marginalized individuals to fill his table. This story teaches us not to let emotions or societal expectations dictate our choices. Instead, we must lean on God’s Word and submit to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
4. Guarding Against Emotional Influence:
Emotions can cloud our judgment and lead us astray. By relying on God’s Word, we can anchor our decisions in His unchanging truth. Romans 12:2 advises, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” By aligning our emotions with God’s Word, we can make choices that honor Him and reflect His love.
5. Inviting Those Approved by God:
If we have the opportunity to invite anyone to dinner, it is crucial to invite those whom God has given us the go-ahead to invite. Seek His discernment and listen to the prompting of the Holy Spirit. By extending invitations to individuals aligned with God’s purpose, we create an atmosphere where His presence can be felt and His glory magnified.
As followers of Christ, we are called to purposefully surround ourselves with individuals who reflect His character and values. By inviting those approved by God, we foster an environment of growth, encouragement, and spiritual transformation. Let us remember that our choices should be intentional, guided by God’s Word, and driven by the desire to bring glory to His name. May our invitations reflect our commitment to walking in wisdom, seeking His guidance, and creating a space where His love is manifested.
