A Passionate Pursuit: Knowing and Doing the Will of God

What are you passionate about?

As Christians, we are called to be passionate in our pursuit of God’s will for our lives. Just as a deer pants for water, our souls should yearn to know and fulfill God’s purpose. In this blog, we will explore the significance of this passionate pursuit, drawing from the Scriptures to guide and inspire us along the way.

1. Thirsting for the Will of God:

In Psalm 42:1, the psalmist beautifully expresses his deep longing for God’s will: “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God.” This vivid imagery portrays the intensity of our desire to know and follow God’s plan for our lives. We must cultivate a thirst that can only be quenched by aligning our hearts with His divine purpose.

2. Seeking God’s Will in His Word:

To understand God’s will, we must turn to His Word—the Bible. Psalm 119:105 affirms, “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” By immersing ourselves in Scripture, we gain wisdom, discernment, and guidance. The more we study and meditate on God’s Word, the clearer His will becomes, allowing us to walk confidently in His ways.

3. Prayer: A Pathway to God’s Will:

In our passionate pursuit of God’s will, prayer becomes an invaluable tool. Jesus, our ultimate example, emphasized the importance of seeking God’s will through prayer. In Matthew 6:10, He taught His disciples to pray, “Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” Prayer aligns our hearts with God’s desires, enabling us to discern His will and walk obediently in it.

4. Surrendering to God’s Plan:

Passionately pursuing God’s will requires a willingness to surrender our own desires and agendas. Jesus demonstrated this surrender in the Garden of Gethsemane, praying, “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done” (Luke 22:42). True passion for God’s will involves trusting Him completely, even when His plan may be different from our own.

5. Walking in Obedience:

Passion without action is incomplete. As we seek to know God’s will, James 1:22 reminds us, “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” Our passion should drive us to obediently follow God’s commands, reflecting His love and character in our actions. Obedience is the evidence of a heart surrendered to God’s will.

In our journey as Christians, let us be like the deer that passionately pants for water, thirsting for the will of God. Through prayer, Scripture, surrender, and obedience, we can experience the joy and fulfillment that comes from knowing and doing God’s will. May our lives be marked by a deep desire to walk in His ways and impact the world around us for His glory.
