As believers, it is essential that we continually examine the pursuits of our hearts and the treasures we hold dear. In Matthew 6:19-21 (AMPC), Jesus teaches us about the significance of prioritizing our treasures correctly: “Do not gather and heap up and store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust and worm consume and destroy, and where thieves break through and steal. But gather and heap up and store for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust nor worm consumes and destroy, and where thieves do not break through and steal; For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
1. The Pursuits of Our Hearts:
What desires propel our hearts forward? Are we consumed by worldly ambitions or driven by the pursuit of God’s kingdom? Proverbs 16:3 (NIV) instructs us to commit our plans to the Lord: “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” By aligning our hearts with God’s purposes, we find fulfillment and divine direction in all our endeavors.
2. Earthly Treasures vs. Heavenly Treasures:
Jesus urges us not to accumulate earthly treasures that are susceptible to decay, theft, and destruction. Instead, He encourages us to invest in heavenly treasures that are imperishable and secure (Matthew 6:19-21 AMPC). Our priority should be on storing up treasures in heaven—spiritual investments that have eternal value. Colossians 3:2 (NIV) reinforces this principle: “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” By prioritizing God’s kingdom, we lay a foundation of lasting significance.
3. Seeking God First:
The issue lies in our prioritization. When God is not the first on our priority list, we experience a reversal of priorities. Matthew 6:33 (AMPC) exhorts us: “But seek (aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right), and then all these things taken together will be given you besides.” By placing God and His righteousness at the forefront, we unlock a cascading effect of divine provision and blessings.
4. Divine Consequences and Sowing:
Our actions and choices have consequences. Galatians 6:7 (AMP) warns us: “Do not be deceived; God is not mocked [He will not allow Himself to be ridiculed, nor treated with contempt nor allow His precepts to be scornfully set aside]; for whatever a man sows, this and this only is what he will reap.” If we disregard divine instruction, structure, and leadership, we must be prepared to face the consequences of our choices.
As followers of Christ, we have been blessed with the teachings and ministrations that guide our paths. Let us not take these gifts lightly. Instead, may we align our hearts and lives with God’s kingdom, ensuring that He occupies the highest place of honor and priority. Through our actions and prioritization, let us demonstrate our love for God and our commitment to His divine will.
As we embark on this journey, let us remember the words of John 15:2, 4, 6 (AMP): “Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away ; and every branch that continues to bear fruit, He [repeatedly] prunes, so that it will bear more fruit [even richer and finer fruit]… If anyone does not remain in Me, he is thrown out like a [broken off] branch, and withers and dies; and they gather such branches and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.”
Let us listen to the Spirit’s voice, heeding His guidance and aligning our hearts and lives with the will of God (Revelation 3:13 AMP). Remember, God’s love for us is immeasurable, and He desires that we continually grow and align ourselves with His divine purposes. May we strive for alignment, keep seeking His kingdom, and experience the abundant life that comes from living in harmony with His will.
May God’s grace and peace accompany us as we embark on this journey of aligning our hearts and priorities with His kingdom.
