Who do you spend the most time with?
In our fast-paced world, it’s easy to get caught up in the busyness of life, neglecting the most important relationships. As Christians, we are called to prioritise our relationships based on biblical principles. In this blog, we will explore the significance of spending time with God, nurturing family bonds, and serving others in our work, aligning our choices with relevant Bible verses from the Amplified Bible.
1. Spending Time with God:
The foundation of any Christian’s life should be a personal relationship with God. By setting aside dedicated quiet time and prayer, we invite Him to guide us, speak to us, and transform us. The Bible urges us to seek God’s presence and make Him our highest priority:
Matthew 6:33 (AMP) – “But first and most importantly seek (aim at, strive after) His kingdom and His righteousness [His way of doing and being right—the attitude and character of God], and all these things will be given to you also.”
Psalm 63:1 (AMP) – “O God, You are my God; with deepest longing, I will seek You; my soul [my life, my very self] thirsts for You, my flesh longs and sighs for You, in a dry and weary land where there is no water.”
2. Strengthening Marital and Parental Bonds:
Within the family, the relationship between spouses and parents and children is of utmost importance. The Bible provides guidance on nurturing these relationships:
Ephesians 5:22-25 (AMP) – “Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as [a service] to the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife, as Christ is head of the church, Himself being the Savior of the body. But as the church is subject to Christ, so also wives should be subject to their husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives [seek the highest good for her and surround her with a caring, unselfish love], just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her.”
Ephesians 6:1-4 (AMP) – “Children, obey your parents in the Lord [as His representatives], for this is just and right. Honour [esteem, value as precious] your father and your mother [and be respectful to them]—this is the first commandment with a promise—so that it may be well with you, and that you may have a long life on the earth.”
3. Serving Others in Our Work:
Our work provides an opportunity to serve others and be a positive influence in the lives of those around us. As Christians, we should approach our professional relationships with a servant’s heart:
Colossians 3:23-24 (AMP) – “Whatever you do [whatever your task may be], work from the soul [that is, put in your very best effort], as [something done] for the Lord and not for men, knowing [with all certainty] that it is from the Lord [not from men] that you will receive the inheritance which is your [greatest] reward. It is the Lord Christ whom you [actually] serve.”
Matthew 20:28 (AMP) – “Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many [paying the price to set them free from the penalty of sin].”
As we prioritise our relationships, let us remember that spending time with God, nurturing our family bonds, and serving others in our work are all interconnected aspects of a well-balanced Christian life. By aligning our choices with biblical principles, we can experience a deeper connection with God, build strong family foundations, and be a shining light in the world around us. Let us strive to keep God at the centre as we love and serve those entrusted to our care.
