What are you good at?
In a world that often encourages us to focus on our weaknesses, it’s important to remember that as followers of Christ, we are not defined by our limitations. Instead, we are called to embrace the truth that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us (Philippians 4:13). This powerful verse reminds us that our abilities are not limited to our natural talents but are empowered and amplified by the divine strength of our Saviour Jesus Christ.
So, let’s dive deeper into the question: What are you good at?
1. Recognizing Our God-Given Talents: As believers, we must acknowledge that our abilities are not mere coincidences but rather gifts from God. The Scriptures tell us that we are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14) and that God has equipped each one of us with unique talents and skills. Take a moment to reflect on the areas in your life where you feel a sense of passion, purpose, and proficiency. These areas are likely indications of the talents God has placed within you.
2. Cultivating Our Talents: While we may be born with certain inclinations or aptitudes, it is our responsibility to cultivate and develop these talents to their fullest potential. Just like the parable of the talents in Matthew 25:14-30, where the servants were entrusted with different amounts, we are called to steward our abilities wisely. It’s not enough to simply recognize our gifts; we must invest time, effort, and resources into refining them. Through prayer, seeking wisdom, and honing our skills, we can unleash the full potential of what God has placed within us.
3. Overcoming Limitations: Despite our best efforts, we may encounter obstacles and limitations that seem to hinder our progress. However, as Christians, we have a secret weapon: the power of Christ. In 2 Corinthians 12:9, the apostle Paul reminds us that Christ’s power is made perfect in our weakness. When we encounter challenges that surpass our human capabilities, we can rely on the supernatural strength of Jesus. Our limitations become opportunities for God to showcase His power and work miracles through us. We can step forward with confidence, knowing that we are not alone in our pursuits.
4. Aligning Our Talents with God’s Purpose: Our talents were never meant to serve our own selfish desires. As followers of Christ, our ultimate goal is to glorify God in everything we do (1 Corinthians 10:31). We must seek to align our talents with God’s purpose for our lives and use them to build His kingdom. By using our gifts to serve others, spread the gospel, and bring hope to the world, we can experience true fulfilment and make an eternal impact.
Dear friends, you are fearfully and wonderfully made, and you have been endowed with unique talents by our loving Creator. Do not underestimate the power that resides within you through Christ. Take time to identify and develop your God-given gifts, and trust in His strength to overcome any limitations you may encounter. Remember, your talents are not just for personal gain but are instruments to bring glory to God and bless others.
Embrace the truth that you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you, and unleash the extraordinary potential within you for the advancement of His kingdom.
