Playing Football on the Edge: My Unbroken Bones and the Promise of God

Have you ever broken a bone?

In the realm of sports, there’s an undeniable allure to pushing ourselves beyond our limits, testing the boundaries of our physical capabilities. For me, that arena has always been football—the adrenaline-fueled, bone-crunching sport that ignites my passion like nothing else. But amidst the fierce tackles, near misses, and countless bruises, a profound realisation has struck me: just like the Bible verse that speaks of Jesus’s unbroken bones, as a child of God, my bones need not be broken either.

Unleashing the Passion:

Football has always been my escape—a thrilling rollercoaster ride where I leave behind the worries of life and dive headfirst into a world of camaraderie, strategy, and sheer determination. I play fervently, channelling my energy into every sprint, tackle, and kick. But with passion comes risk, and as I ventured deeper into the game, my encounters with bone-crushing tackles became more frequent.

Near Misses and Lessons Learned:

On one fateful day, as I raced down the field with the ball at my feet, a towering opponent lunged toward me with an intensity matched only by my own. Our collision was thunderous, bones clashing against bones. In that heart-stopping moment, I felt the fragility of the human body and the immense power of the sport. Miraculously, I emerged with nothing more than a bruised ego and a heightened awareness of the importance of safety.

The Promise of Unbroken Bones:

As a person of faith, I found solace in the knowledge that Jesus, our Savior, faced unimaginable pain and suffering without a bone in His body being broken. The prophetic words from Psalm 34:20 rang in my mind, “He protects all his bones; not one of them will be broken.” In those words, I discovered a powerful parallel between my experiences on the football field and the divine protection promised to believers.

A Greater Protection:

While the verse speaks specifically of Jesus, it symbolises God’s unwavering protection of all His children. Reflecting on this truth, I realised that my safety on the football field depends not solely on my skills, strength, or agility. Rather, it stems from an unseen shield of divine love and protection surrounding me, deflecting the blows that would otherwise shatter bones and dreams.

Living Fearlessly:

Understanding the significance of this promise, I no longer approach the game with trepidation or fear. Instead, I play with a renewed sense of purpose and trust. With each stride, I am filled with confidence that my bones will remain unbroken and that I will emerge from the field of battle whole and unscathed, just as Jesus did.

Embracing the Lessons:

My journey on the football field has taught me valuable lessons beyond the boundaries of the game. It has shown me the importance of embracing faith in the face of adversity, acknowledging that there is a greater force at work, and protecting and guiding me through every challenge. I’ve come to understand that, as a child of God, I am called to live fearlessly, fully aware that His divine plan encompasses all aspects of my life, even the ones that carry the potential for bone-breaking risk.

Conclusion:

As I continue to pursue my passion for football, I carry with me the unbreakable promise found in the Bible. Just as Jesus’s bones remained unbroken, I find solace in the fact that my bones need not succumb to the physical rigours of the sport. By recognising the divine protection that surrounds me, I can face every game, every tackle, and every opponent with a profound sense of faith and a steadfast belief that I am more than a conqueror both on and off the field.
