List the people you admire and look to for advice…
Throughout history, people have looked up to and admired heroes who have demonstrated courage, strength, and devotion to God. The Bible is full of such heroes whose stories inspire us today.
Let’s explore some of these heroes and what we can learn from them.
One of the most well-known heroes of the Bible is David. As a young shepherd boy, David defeated the giant Goliath with a sling and a stone. Despite being small, David had faith in God and trusted that He would give him the strength to defeat his enemy. In Psalm 23, David writes, “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.” David’s faith and trust in God’s protection and guidance can inspire us to trust God in our lives.
Another hero of the Bible is Esther, a young Jewish woman who became queen of Persia. When her people were threatened with genocide, Esther risked her own life by speaking to the king on their behalf. Her bravery and willingness to stand up for what was right can be seen in Esther 4:14, where her cousin Mordecai says, “For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” Esther’s story reminds us that we all have a purpose and a role to play in God’s plan.
One of the greatest heroes of the New Testament is Jesus Christ Himself. He demonstrated love, compassion, and selflessness throughout His life, even to the point of sacrificing Himself on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins. In John 15:13, Jesus says, “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.” Jesus’ example of sacrificial love can inspire us to love others with the same selflessness and compassion that He demonstrated.
As we look up to and admire these heroes of the Bible, it’s important to remember that they were not perfect. David committed adultery and murder, Esther initially kept her Jewish identity a secret, and even Jesus faced temptation and hardship. However, they all had faith in God and relied on His strength to overcome their struggles. We, too, can turn to God in times of difficulty and trust His strength to help us.
In conclusion, the heroes of God in the Bible serve as role models for us to look up to and admire. Their stories remind us to have faith, trust in God’s protection and guidance, stand up for what is right, and love others selflessly.
As we strive to follow their examples, let us also remember that we are all imperfect and need God’s grace and forgiveness.
