Dealing With Nervousness

What makes you nervous?

As Christians, we are not immune to feelings of nervousness and anxiety. However, we have a unique source of strength and comfort in our faith in God. The Bible offers many verses that can help us deal with nervousness and anxiety. Here are a few of them:

1. Philippians 4:6-7: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

This passage reminds us that we should bring our concerns to God in prayer and with a thankful heart. As we do so, we can experience the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding. This peace can guard our hearts and minds, even in the midst of difficult circumstances.

2. Psalm 56:3-4: “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?”

In this verse, the psalmist acknowledges his fear but chooses to put his trust in God. He recognizes that God’s word is worthy of praise and that he can rely on God’s protection and provision. This can be a powerful reminder for us when we are feeling nervous or anxious.

3. Joshua 1:9: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

These words were spoken by God to Joshua as he prepared to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land. They serve as a reminder that we do not have to be afraid or discouraged, because God is with us wherever we go. We can draw strength and courage from this truth, knowing that God is with us and will guide us through whatever challenges we face.

4. 1 Peter 5:7: “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”

This verse reminds us that we can bring all of our anxieties to God and trust that he cares for us. We do not have to carry our burdens alone, but can give them to God and trust that he will provide for us.

5. Matthew 6:34: “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

This verse reminds us to focus on the present and not to worry about what the future may bring. We can trust that God will provide for us each day and that we do not need to be anxious about what is to come.

As we face nervousness and anxiety in our lives, let us remember these verses and the truth they offer. Let us bring our concerns to God in prayer, put our trust in him, and focus on his provision and protection. May we experience the peace that surpasses all understanding and find strength and courage in our faith in God.
