Evangelism is one of the most important tasks given to Christians. It involves sharing the gospel message with others, inviting them to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, and helping them grow in their faith. While this can be a challenging task, many rewards come with evangelism.
Let’s look at some relevant Bible verses highlighting evangelism’s rewards.
1. Saving souls
Perhaps the most important reward of evangelism is that it saves souls. When we share the gospel message with others, we allow them to hear about Jesus Christ and accept Him as their Savior. This has eternal significance and is the greatest reward of all.
In Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus commands His disciples to go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything He commanded. This is the great commission, a call for all Christians to share the gospel message with others.
2. Joy and rejoicing
Another reward of evangelism is the joy and rejoicing from seeing people come to faith in Christ. In Luke 15:10, Jesus says, “In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” When we share the gospel message with others and see them come to faith in Christ, we have joy and there is rejoicing in heaven.
3. Treasures in heaven
In Matthew 6:19-20, Jesus says, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.” When we evangelise, we store treasures in heaven that cannot be destroyed. This is a reward that lasts for eternity.
4. Blessings on earth
“The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; And he that winneth souls is wise. Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed in the earth: Much more the wicked and the sinner.”
Proverbs 11:30-31 KJV
While the rewards of evangelism are primarily focused on eternity, some blessings come to us here on Earth. When we do evangelism, we are living out our faith and being obedient to God’s call. This can lead to peace, joy, and a sense of purpose.
In Mark 10:29-30, Jesus says, “Truly I tell you,” Jesus replied, “No one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age: homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields—along with persecutions—and in the age to come eternal life.”
In conclusion, many rewards come with evangelism. These include saving souls, joy and rejoicing, treasures in heaven, and blessings on earth. As Christians, we are called to be faithful witnesses for Christ and to share the gospel message with others. Let us be faithful in this task, knowing that the rewards far outweigh any difficulties we face.
