Freely I Received Freely I Give

What job would you do for free?

As Christians, we are called to serve others and use our gifts and talents to bring glory to God. One way we can do this is by serving in a job without expecting anything in return.

In this blog, I will discuss a job I am willing to do for free and how the Bible encourages us to give freely of ourselves.

The job that I am willing to do for free is volunteering at a local soup kitchen. This involves preparing and serving meals to needy people, interacting with them and providing emotional support. While this may not seem like a glamorous job, I believe it is important to help those less fortunate than ourselves.

The Bible encourages us to give freely of ourselves without expecting anything in return. In Matthew 10:8, Jesus tells his disciples, “Freely you have received; freely give.” This means that we should use the gifts and blessings that God has given us to serve others without seeking personal gain or recognition.

In 2 Corinthians 9:7, we are reminded that “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” This verse emphasises the importance of giving from the heart with a spirit of joy and generosity.

Volunteering at a soup kitchen is a tangible way to demonstrate this kind of giving. By serving others without expecting anything in return, we can show the love of Christ to those in need. In Luke 14:13-14, Jesus says, “When you give a banquet, invite the poor, the disabled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”

This passage reminds us that even though those we serve may not be able to repay us, we will receive a reward in heaven for our selfless service.

In conclusion, volunteering at a soup kitchen is a job I am willing to do for free. Through this act of service, I can demonstrate the love of Christ and give freely of myself without expecting anything in return. As we are reminded in Matthew 25:40, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”

By serving others, we are ultimately serving God.
