Are You Struggling To Pray?

Luke 18:1 EXB Then Jesus used this ·story [parable] to ·teach his followers [show the necessity] that they should always pray and never ·lose hope [become discouraged].

A sister in Christ reached out to me one day and was open to let me know how she sometimes struggles to keep alert or awake when trying to pray. She said that she prayed in the spirit throughout, feeling a little sleepy; that the highlight was that she wasn’t feeling the prayer but that she didn’t stop praying.

I am sure some of us find ourselves with that same struggle, and I want to share with you what came out from the womb of the Holy Spirit in responding to her. I pray that it will bless someone.

Please note the Bible verses quoted for further study and meditation.

The Holy Spirit takes hold of us in our human frailty to empower us in our weakness.

Romans 8:26 TPT – And in a similar way, the Holy Spirit takes hold of us in our human frailty to empower us in our weakness. For example, at times we don’t even know how to pray, or know the best things to ask for. But the Holy Spirit rises up within us to super-intercede on our behalf, pleading to God with emotional sighs too deep for words.

Prayer is not to be felt – if you are always waiting to feel prayer, your flesh will override you.

Psalm 65:2 AMPC – O You Who hear prayer, to You shall all flesh come.

Hunger for God & Honour for God:

Be conscious of Who you are praying to – the same way you would be very alert speaking to a very important person in your life – God deserves better. That reality must drive us. The devil is the one opposed to praying, and he is the one that fights prayer… Making your life a prayer is not an encouragement from the Bible is for security and empowerment against the adversary

1 Thessalonians 5:17-18 TPT Make your life a prayer. And in the midst of everything, be always giving thanks, for this is God’s perfect plan for you in Christ Jesus.

How would you pray differently if your life depended on it?

We are to Pray without ceasing –

1 Thessalonians 5:17 KJV – Pray without ceasing.

See other versions of the Bible:

1 Thessalonians 5:17 AMP – be unceasing and persistent in prayer.

1 Thessalonians 5:17 NLT – Never stop praying.

It is not praying until we catch the feeling. It is praying with all manner of prayers without ceasing.

Ephesians 6:18 AMPC – Pray at all times (on every occasion, in every season) in the Spirit, with all [manner of] prayer and entreaty. To that end, keep alert and watch with strong purpose and perseverance, interceding in behalf of all the saints (God’s consecrated people).

The effectual and fervency in prayer is your spirit dominating your flesh – it is your revelation and understanding of Who you are praying to overriding the weakness of the flesh.

Let this scripture below guide your prayer and structure how you pray.

Matthew 6:9-13 AMPC – 9 Pray, therefore, like this: Our Father Who is in heaven, hallowed (kept holy) be Your name 10 Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven (left, remitted, and let go of the debts, and have given up resentment against) our debtors. 13 And lead (bring) us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

James 5:16b AMP…The heartfelt and persistent prayer of a righteous man (believer) can accomplish much [when put into action and made effective by God—it is dynamic and can have tremendous power].

Read Ephesians 3:20. It is to Him (God) your prayer is directed, and when you give it your best, you get much more than you can ever think or imagine…

Ephesians 3:20-21 AMP – 20 Now to Him who is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly more than all that we dare ask or think [infinitely beyond our greatest prayers, hopes, or dreams], according to His power that is at work within us, 21 to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations forever and ever. Amen.

I pray that God will help you marvellously and that you will always be victorious in the place of prayer in Jesus’ Name.

Remain blessed.
