Why You Should Forgive

Ephesians 2:8-9 NLT

8 God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. 9 Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.

Matthew 6:12, 14 NLT

“and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us. “If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you.”

We do not earn our forgiveness; Jesus achieved that for you on the cross. But your willingness to forgive is evidence that you know God’s forgiveness. Forgiven people forgive. All of us have been forgiven so much by God that we must keep on forgiving the comparatively small offences committed against us.

Matthew 18:32-33, 35 NLT

“Then the king called in the man he had forgiven and said, ‘You evil servant! I forgave you that tremendous debt because you pleaded with me. Shouldn’t you have mercy on your fellow servant, just as I had mercy on you?’ “That’s what my heavenly Father will do to you if you refuse to forgive your brothers and sisters from your heart.””
