A Letter To Fellow Writers

Dearly Beloved fellow writers,

I give no apologies for being overly spiritual; as a Christian, my default is to operate from the spirit outward.

I firmly believe that writing is a calling, and what I mean by that is there is a Divine purpose that God wants to achieve through your writing if you would acknowledge your ability to write as a gift from Him. I write as I am graced to. God inspires what I am to write, and in obedience, I write it. I do not write for my gratification; instead, I do it with the joyous hope that someone somewhere will read it and be better for it as God intended.

I am not bothered about critics, and I believe we need critics, my wife is my number one critic, and I love her for it. Critics make you stronger, challenge you to do better and push you to go further. Critics are the stones to sharpen the blade of your writing.

Sticks and stones thrown at you can be received as attacks, and you can spend a lot of time nursing injuries – that’s destructive, or you could be constructive sticks and stones are materials that can be used to build a habitat or a staircase onto glorious heights.

Please don’t cut off friends because they criticise your writing. Friends are not meant to be untruthful; that’s a cruel expectation of them; I don’t need friends that can’t tell me the truth – if your friend says your writing is not good enough, don’t become deflated and offended; instead, ask, okay, why? And how can I improve?

If God graces you to write, accept your writing as a Divine assignment and do it with joy and understand that if you stop writing because someone says it is not good enough – stop and consider if you were ever called to write in the first place?
