Phonetic Spelling: (reh-oo-ale’)

I believe that it is desirable to truly be a friend of God and not just to confess to being one only. It is then good wisdom to study about those who God qualified to be His friend.

Moses, the Friend of God:

These words are spoken of Moses in Exodus 33:11a(Expanded Bible)
The Lord spoke to Moses’ face to face as a man speaks with his friend.

The Hebrew word for “friend” used here is the word rea (H7453). This word suggests intimacy, companionship, and reciprocal relationship.

Numbers 12:8 (Expanded Bible)
I speak face to face with him—clearly, not with hidden meanings [directly]. He has even seen the form of the Lord.

Throughout the life of Moses, we see over and over again this open conversation with God. It is important to note that this level of relationship/friendship requires sincere, intentionality and regular communication.

Moses did not only speak to God once in a while, or only when he needed something, but as a friend, he maintained regular and open communication with God.

Dear friends of God,
Have you spoken with God today? The question is not about you asking for this or that.

How about telling Him how wonderful and faithful He is to you or about how much you love Him and love being in His presence?

Maybe today, at some point, pause to take stock of how good God has been to you and give Him some well-deserved thanks.

Friendship is a two-way street. If we desire that God be our friend, we must be to Him as His to us – a friend like no other.

but there is one loving friend who is joined to your heart closer than any other!

Prayer:
Thank You God, for being my loving Father and friend, joined to my heart, closer than any other; help me Holy Spirit, that I also be the same to God my Father. That I be a friend of God not by words alone but in my heart and acts in Jesus Name. Amen!
