Embellishing Truth

As Christians on social media we must do well not to post things that embellish the Truth of God’s word so as to look good and sound nice.

I seldom comment on posts but when a proclaimed Christian posts questionable stuff and I perceive in my Spirit that it could be easily misconstrued, I am moved to respond.

At first glance this posted image and words seems innocent and factual but without putting it in the right context it could be very misleading.

It has some truth to it on the basis of one (self righteous) being religious but lacking the very revelation and life of Christ Jesus by not being genuinely born again. That is receiving Jesus as Saviour and Lord:

And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among people by which we must be saved [for God has provided the world no alternative for salvation].”
ACTS 4:12 AMP

ROMANS 10:9 AMP
…because if you acknowledge and confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord [recognizing His power, authority, and majesty as God], and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

Let me further expand on what I meant by one being cautious as to put “this social media post” it in the proper context or many would be misled, please read on:

MATTHEW 5:17‭-‬48 AMP
“Do not think that I came to do away with or undo the Law [of Moses] or the [writings of the] Prophets; I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.  For I assure you and most solemnly say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke [of the pen] will pass from the Law until all things [which it foreshadows] are accomplished.  So whoever breaks one of the least [important] of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, will be called least [important] in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever practices and teaches them, he will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.   “For I say to you that unless your righteousness (uprightness, moral essence) is more than that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven…..You, therefore, will be perfect [growing into spiritual maturity both in mind and character, actively integrating godly values into your daily life], as your heavenly Father is perfect.

This is Jesus speaking in the above Bible verses saying “I did not come to destroy but to fulfill the law”.

The law is not abolished but fulfilled perfectly in Christ Jesus. And it is only by us having the life of Christ can we fully meet the demands of the law and supersede it. That was what Christ accomplished through His death and resurrection and hence why we can say and it is indeed true that: “I can do all things [which He has called me to do] through Him who strengthens and empowers me [to fulfill His purpose—I am self-sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency; I am ready for anything and equal to anything through Him who infuses me with inner strength and confident peace.]”
PHILIPPIANS 4:13 AMP

For sin will no longer be a master over you, since you are not under Law [as slaves], but under [unmerited] grace [as recipients of God’s favor and mercy].  What then [are we to conclude]? Shall we sin because we are not under Law, but under [God’s] grace? Certainly not!
ROMANS 6:14‭-‬15 AMP

Being under grace and above the law is not about shutting the law of God down but rather being empowered to rise above the base line of the law and thriving at a higher level in Christ Jesus, the Grace of God.

Grace is not an excuse to disobey the commandments of God but it is the Divinely given ability through Christ Jesus to obey and to live a life that is consistently obedient to God.

We are not to be like some confused people claiming to be Christians by practicing religion; obeying a set of rules or trying to meet the demands of the law by their own self righteousness and denying the gift of Grace by not acknowledging Jesus as Saviour and Lord. It is by Christ alone that we are put right with God. In Him alone are all the demands of the law fulfilled.

For through the Law I died to the Law and its demands on me [because salvation is provided through the death and resurrection of Christ], so that I might [from now on] live to God. I have been crucified with Christ [that is, in Him I have shared His crucifixion]; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body I live by faith [by adhering to, relying on, and completely trusting] in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me. I do not ignore or nullify the [gracious gift of the] grace of God [His amazing, unmerited favor], for if righteousness comes through [observing] the Law, then Christ died needlessly. [His suffering and death would have had no purpose whatsoever.]”
GALATIANS 2:19‭-‬21 AMP
