Isaiah 54:5 New International Version (NIV)5 For your Maker is your husband— the Lord Almighty is his name—the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer; he is called the God of all the earth.

Isaiah 54:5 King James Version (KJV)5 For thy Maker is thine husband; the Lord of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called. When God is Your God – one could conclude from Isaiah 54:5 that He is Your Maker, Your Husband, The Lord of Host, Your Redeemer, God of all the Earth.
So, let’s dig deeper; examining what these implies:
1. Your Maker (Creator)
Ecclesiastes 12:1 New International Version (NIV) Remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before the days of trouble come and the years approach when you will say, “I find no pleasure in them”
Psalm 149:2 New International Version (NIV) Let Israel rejoice in their Maker; let the people of Zion be glad in their King.
2. Your Husband
Isaiah 62:5 King James Version (KJV) For as a young man marries a virgin, so shall thy sons marry thee: and as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, so shall thy God rejoice over thee.
Ephesians 5:25-33 English Standard Version (ESV)25 Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, 26 that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27 so that he might present the church to himself in splendour, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. 28 In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, 30 because we are members of his body. 31 “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” 32 This mystery is profound, and I am saying that it refers to Christ and the church. 33 However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.
‘The word rendered ‹husband, ‘from denotes properly the lord, maker, or ruler of anyone; or the owner of anything. It often, however, means, to be a biblical husband and is evidently used in that sense here. The idea is, that Yahweh would sustain to his people the relation of a husband; that he who had made them, who had originated all their laws and institutions, and called them His people.
In God being a Husband what does it then mean for a Christian man to be a Husband; the biblical perspective (Ephesians 5: 25-33)?
This is my understanding of who a true Christian husband is; He loves his wife, gives himself to and for his wife, is a priest and intercessor for his wife, is a man of the Word, a nurturer of his wife, is responsible for his wife, cares for and cares about his wife, prioritises his wife. And such a blessed wife is divinely mandated to respect such a blessed husband.
God is Your Husband (Isaiah 54:5), the same depth of intimate relationship was used in
Ephesians 5: 25-33; for me it would suggest that a Christian man that is yet to be a husband and a husband that would be a man after God’s heart and who does good to his wife would imbibe this identity; this would require the help and grace of God and the persistent effort to keep getting better. But God and Christ Jesus are already perfect “Husbands”. Selah.
The Bible is complete and the Same also speaks of the identity and responsibility of a Christian wife, for anyone interested please see:
Ephesians 5:22-24 King James Version (KJV)22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.
3. The Lord of Host
Deuteronomy 6:4 New International Version (NIV)4 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one: Deuteronomy 6:4 Or the Lord our God is one Lord; or The Lord is our God, the Lord is one; or The Lord is our God, the Lord alone
Here it refers to Yahweh of hosts, ‘necessarily in the singular, as Yahweh is one Deuteronomy 6:4. No argument can be drawn from this phrase to prove that there is a distinction of persons in the Godhead, as the form is so often used evidently with a singular signification. That the words here properly have a singular signification was the evident understanding of the ancient interpreters.
4. Your Redeemer
Isaiah 43:1-3 King James Version (KJV)43 But now thus saith the Lord that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.2 When thou pass through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walk through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.3 For I am the Lord thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour: I gave Egypt for thy ransom, Ethiopia and Sheba for thee.
5. God of all the Earth
He shall no more be regarded as uniquely the God of the Jewish people, but shall be acknowledged as the only true God, the God that rules over all the world. This refers undoubtedly to the times of the gospel when he should be acknowledged as the God of the Gentiles as well as the Jews.
Romans 3:29 New International Version (NIV)29 Or is God the God of Jews only? Is he not the God of Gentiles too? Yes, of Gentiles too
If God is all of what the Word said he is it is to our greatest benefit to relate appropriately and it is wisdom to conclude that we should go to Him no matter the need or the situation is.
God is our Maker :Who else can know us better than he does?Who else can fix us when we are broken? Who else can understand us better at the time when life seems to confound us into silence? Who else can love and care for us like we should be loved and cared for? Who else understands our purpose and how best to fulfil our Divine destiny?
I could go on…
Our relational response to the commitment of God is through Faith – and I believe in any discussion about relating correctly with God if faith is not included then one would err. The Bible (Hebrews 11:6) says without faith it is impossible to please God.
